1944: WW2 report on the development of jet engines in Italy

CIOS: Combined Intelligence Objectives Sub-Committee:

Caproni-Campini Aircraft and Allied Developments in Italy.

London: [August 1944]. Exceedingly scarce.

10 x 7.5 inches, 25 x 18 cms. 80 pages of printed typewriter-face text, including 10 photographs and several plans (dated August 1944) of the original prototype Campini aircraft with a ducted airscrew or fan, and ducted exhaust, a forerunner of true jet propulsion.

In very good condition in slightly dusty original buff wrappers, faint inoffensive library stamp on front cover. Protected in a modern handmade archival cloth slipcase, leather label titled in gilt.

An exceedingly scarce and important report on the Italian contribution to jet development during the war.

Following the Normandy landings in 1944, combined American and British intelligence units (CIOS) working under SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied European Forces) produced a series of surveys and reports on captured German industry and armament production as allied troops advanced across Europe.

Printed in small numbers for a restricted circulation, this military intelligence reports, containing material unpublished elsewhere, seldom come onto the market.
