1945: WW2 intelligence report on the Philips radar valve factory at Porta, Minden

CIOS: Combined Intelligence Objectives Sub-Committee :

Electronic Valve / Radar Factories Helmbrechts and Minden.

London: HMSO, 12/45 (December 1945). FIRST EDITION.

10" x 7.5". A 12 page printed typewriter-face report, plus 4 photographs, of the electronics valve (including radar) factories at Helmbrechts (near Hof) and Porta Westfalica (near Minden) run by TeKaDe and Hammerwerke, Philips.

A sombre aspect of the report is that the underground factory at Porta is stated as employing "1,200 Jewish girls from Poland, Hungary and Holland, living in camps inside the mountain and guarded by the SS". Terrible days.

In good condition in original wrappers, faint library stamp on front cover.  Protected in an archival clear plastic sleeve.

British and American troops of the 5th Armored Division and 84th Infantry Division reached the Weser River at Minden in the early days of April 1945 meeting stiff resistance in an attempt to force a crossing. This report was prepared in the aftermath of that attack and subesequent German surrender.

Following the Normandy landings in 1944, combined American and British intelligence units (CIOS) working under SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied European Forces) produced a series of surveys and reports on captured German industry and armament production as allied troops advanced across occupied Europe.

Printed in small numbers for a restricted circulation, this military intelligence report, containing material unpublished elsewhere, seldom comes onto the market.
