Originally founded in 1789 by Robert Ransome, an ironfounder in Norwich, Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies Engineers of Ipswich were a major British agricultural machinery maker. Their most famous products were traction engines, ploughs, lawn mowers and other
tilling equipment.
This 1903 catalogue is of particular historical importance in the development of agricultural machinery as it marks the transition from Ransomes manufacturing solely steam-powered tractors to oil-fired.

No other catalogue from this company from this early period whether in English or in French, such as this, is recorded by COPAC as being held either by the British Library, by the National Library of Scotland, by the National Library of Wales, or by any
other of Britain's major university, academic or research libraries. In short, a virtually irreplaceable item.
