1943: WW2 Luftwaffe aircrew folding panoramic map of England's South Coast

Der Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe [The Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe]:

Luftgeographische Orientierungskarte I A-B map

Generalstab des Heeres [German General Staff], Berlin: 1943.

A nice original example of the large and rare Luftgeographische Orientierungskarte I A-B map, issued by the Luftwaffe in 1943 for German bomber aircrew involved in operations against the English South Coast from the Thames to Cornwall. The German designation "A-B" refers to the England's South Coast; a companion map "C-E" covered England's East Coast and Midlands.

The map shows a number of ground features - steep hills, high cliffs, marshlands, railways, and the like, and also has inset half-tone aerial reconnaissance photographs of typical landscapes.

12" x 28" (30 cms x 68 cms), coloured, folded as issued in 1943 to German Luftwaffe aircrew. A nice, virtually unmarked copy, superb for framing and display, providing a magnificent talking-point.
