A collection of 66 different original real-photograph publicity postcards, 3.5 inches x 5.5 inches, of late Victorian and Edwardian pantomime and music hall actresses appearing in Bradford theatres (including the Alhambra Theatre and Princes Theatre) between about 1900 and 1920.
The photographic postcards, virtually all unused (unposted) and in very good condition, are preserved in a modern archival album..

All the photographs were taken by one or other of two Bradford firms of photographers, Albert Sachs and Walter Scott, to be issued by the actresses themselves as publicity postcards.
This is significant as, although a few of the actresses in the collection (such as José Collins and Florrie Forde) were household names at the time, many of the subjects were girls local to Bradford and the West Riding of Yorkshire, or Lancashire, appearing solely in small Northern provincial productions and who thus employed local photographers for their publicity photographs. These photographs were most likely not published elsewhere.

As many names appear to be unrecorded as having appeared on stage outside the Northern pantomime circuit, these photographic postcards may therefore now be the sole remaining visual evidence of their stage careers. What happened, for example, to the winsome Aimée Stewart, shown immediately above? She is known to have appeared in Aladdin at the Princes Theatre, Bradford, in 1914/15, and again at the same theatre in 1920/21. But elsewhere?

Sometimes, it's possible to trace a little of the actress's career. Nan C. Hearne, pictured above, travelled to New York in 1922 on the White Star liner Megantic with the company of London's Gaiety Theatre to take the company's revue Pins and Needles onto Broadway. But nothing beyond this can easily be found.
A complete list of all the subjects follows below. No postcard is duplicated - the numbers in parentheses (-) after some of the names are different photographs of the actress in question in different poses.
