1905: An exceedingly scarce piece of British pantomime history

Edited by "Bayard"

The 'Chronicle' Pantomime Annual, 1905-6

Published Manchester: E. Hulton, 1905.

8.5 x 5.5 inches, 40 pages stapled as issued inside original red soft card covers. Photographic illustrations throughout.

A little dusty and with staples rusty but overall a nice, complete example of the exceedingly scarce first known issue of this important pantomime annual.

The Chronicle' Pantomime Annual 1905-6 contains "Portraits of Principals at the Theatre Royal, Manchester; Prince's Theatre, Manchester; Gaiety Theatre, Manchester; Palace Theatre, Manchester; Hippodrome, Manchester; Broadhead's Theatres, Manchester; Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool; Shakespeare Theatre, Liverpool; Grand Theatre, Leeds; Theatre Royal, Leeds; Theatre Royal, Bradford and Prince's Theatre, Bradford".

This annual ran from about 1905 to 1932, in later years extending its geographical coverage to theatres elsewhere in the country.

In short, this slim work - almost certainly one of the very few copies in existence of the first year of issue - is a virtually irreplaceable and hitherto unrecorded piece of British pantomime history. UKBI rarity scale 5 or 6.
