9 inches x 6 inches (23 cms x 15 cms). 312 pages, 36 photographs. A very nice unmarked copy in its original gilt-decorated red cloth. Spine a touch faded, internally immaculate.
Very rarely found in any condition, let alone as nice as this.

An account by Herbert Baldwin, press photographer of Central News Ltd., of London, of his personal experiences during the war of 1912 between Turkey and the Allied Balkan States.

In addition to providing a compelling account and a unique photographic record of the war itself, this work is notable in devoting a short chapter to "The press photographer in the field of war", an occupation then still in its infancy.

In this chapter, also forecasting the future of war photography, the author recognises that the qualities required of a press photographer on a battlefield should extend beyond the mechanical ability of merely being able to take a photograph and should include
having a "journalistic instinct" lest he misses the point of "the story".
Baldwin later became an official photographer working for the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War, operating on the Somme and elsewhere.
